About the Author

Robert (Bob) Dahlstrom

Mr. Dahlstrom is an accomplished individual with 7 U.S. Patents and has received numerous engineering, invention, and teaching awards. He has published over 50 papers and articles, spoken at multiple conferences and events, and appeared in numerous podcasts and webinars.

Bob is the inventor of software-driven aerial robotic platforms that paint, coat, clean, and test in situations where humans have traditionally done the work at physical risk to themselves. He is considered the "father" of Working Drones, drones designed to do more than just take photos and modify the physical environment.

Mr. Dahlstrom’s work has enabled the creation of entirely new industries, bringing massive economic gains to engineering firms, services companies, building and asset owners, insurance companies, and others implementing the Apellix technology. Architects for the built environment have said he has changed architecture forever.

Prior to Founding Apellix, Bob founded a software company, worked as a full-time faculty member at Florida State University, worked for the Florida Legislature, and worked in a clean room at AT&T Microelectronics. He holds an MBA from Florida State University and a B.S. from Cal State East Bay. Bob is also a marathon runner who knows the value of discipline, training, and persistence.

Bob started building prototypes of Power Wash and Spray Painting Drones in 2013 and, in 2014, founded Apellix and patented them. In 2015 he brought Phyl Schnyder, a good friend and investor in his previous software company, onboard as co-founder. Shortly thereafter, Jeff Mutcheon, a friend and neighbor, joined as another co-founder.

Bob strongly advocates that software is “eating the world” and is passionate about designing and creating software-controlled robotic systems that keep people safe and save lives. Engineering firms, services companies, building and asset owners, insurance companies, and others that implement the Apellix technology generate massive economic gains.
