Drone Flights in the US - Tied to a FAA limit of 55 lbs

If you are a certified FAA 107 pilot, you know the weight limit for UASs is 55 lbs. That’s 55 lbs. “all in”, including the weight of the aircraft and everything mounted on it or that it is carrying including;

Batteries, cameras, electronics, sensors, tethers, and anything else

Wait, did I hear the word tether? How does that work as part of the weight calculations? What if the tether includes material transfer such as paint, cleaning, or rinse agents that are being pumped up to the drone? Is the weight of the material included? read more…

Next-Generation Sky Workers: Using Aerial Robotic Systems to replace humans working at elevation

Why use cranes, scaffolding, or rope when you can use a next-generation contact-based sky worker aerial robotic system at nearly any height.  New Sky Workers such as the Aerial Robotic systems by Apellix are changing the time, economics, and safety of projects.

Apellix creates next-generation toolkits for impossible jobs - starting with our “Sky Worker” the Opus X4 NDE (non-destructive examination) system for a contact-based aerial platform for the industrial and built environment using computer-controlled drones that "do work". Under full computer control our systems apply paint at elevation, take contact-based measurement thicknesses on Oil & Gas, infrastructure, and other assets, and increase worker safety while collecting a depth and breadth of data never before available. We then apply Machine Learning and AI to the data. The Opus X8 W (washing) system can clean elevated water towers and more and the Opus X8 SPD (Spray Painting Drone) is designing to paint 13,000 ft2 per hour (human painters coat 500-700 ft2 per hour).

Apellix Honored to be Named World Changing Idea 2021

Apellix, protecting the world’s built and industrial environments through aerial robotic technology, is celebrating being named a World-Changing Idea of 2021 by Fast Company. Apellix has created and is continuing to improve aerial robotic systems used in the war on corrosion that can prepare surfaces for coating/painting, apply the coatings, and monitor the coating job and the condition. It’s an honor to be recognized as an elegant safety solution moving workers from harm’s way, saving lives, and making the world a better place. Read more

How to Utilize UT Aerial Robotic Measurement Systems in Your Organization

Industrial aerial UT robotic inspection systems can bring huge benefits to your organization by gathering large volumes of high-quality data. In addition, these systems enable faster inspections with increased safety aspects and thus can unlock tremendous value for your company. The Apellix Opus X4 UT systems improve efficiency due to reduced inspection time and increase efficacy by allowing for quicker reporting and faster decision making. Further, they help achieve substantial cost savings, particularly when they prevent an asset from being taken out of service or enabling an asset to be returned to service in a faster timeframe Finally, they are an elegant safety solution moving workers from harm’s way and potentially saving lives. CORROSION AWARENESS DAY 2021 Discover how critical the War on Corrosion is

Corrosion costs lives. Did you know that corrosion also costs us an astounding US $2.5 trillion dollars globally (3 to 4% of GDP of industrialized countries)? There is good news however, we can reduce that cost by $875 billion annually through appropriate application of existing corrosion abatement technologies.

Sadly, corrosion is also the cause of deaths. Corrosion caused a bridge in Minneapolis in the US to collapse in 2007 killing 13 and injuring 145. And while that is spectacular evidence of the problem, it is not an isolated example. Currently about 46,000 U.S. bridges are structurally deficient.

To celebrate Corrosion Awareness Day Apellix is raising awareness of the issues around corrosion and asks for your help. Talk to your friends and family and raise awareness, stay safe, and help all of us at Apellix keep corrosion at bay. Read more
