Apellix is proud to be one of the ARM Institute member organizations selected to take part in the Organic Industrial Base (OIB) Modernization Challenge.
Earlier this year, the Office of the Under Secretary of War Manufacturing Technology Office (OSW ManTech) issued the OIB Modernization Challenge to the nation's Manufacturing Innovation Institutes, including the ARM Institute. The goal of the modernization challenge was to support the US Department of War's push to modernize defense manufacturing through practical technology and workforce innovation.
The ARM Institute and its member consortium will modernize 12 U.S. military manufacturing sites through nearly $90M in newly funded robotics, physical AI, and workforce solutions. Apellix is proud to be one of the participating members.
What is the Organic Industrial Base (OIB)?
The OIB is the network of arsenals, depots, and ammunition plants that build and maintain the equipment the US military relies on. These facilities are critical to supporting warfighters and to national security, and the Department of War is working to modernize them with advanced technologies such as robotics and physical AI. Apellix is proud to have partnered with OIB military sites for this modernization project.
What modernization solutions did the Office of the Under Secretary of War Manufacturing Technology Office fund?
The selected projects range from making energetics production safer and using AI to improve manufacturing quality, to using drones to speed mission readiness and using robotics to clear bottlenecks. Together they address challenges affecting every branch of the military.
What is the ARM Institute?
The ARM (Advanced Robotics for Manufacturing) Institute is a Manufacturing Innovation Institute funded by the Office of the Secretary of War and part of the Manufacturing USA network. Based in Pittsburgh since 2017, it brings together 500+ members across industry, academia, and government to advance robotics and AI adoption and prepare the U.S. manufacturing workforce.
